It’s time for another Book Review! I know there have been several book reviews, but I will have some candle and tea reviews coming up for you in the next few posts to liven things up a bit! In the meantime, let us get down to the nitty gritty on this latest read…
For a brief back of the book synopsis click HERE to be routed to the Barnes & Noble page that contains the back of the book information (as well as a way for you to buy the book ;)!).
I’ve had this book on my TBR list for quite a long time actually. I started off reading and then for some reason I put it down swearing I would pick it up again soon, but that didn’t happen till now. I have to say, I am very happy that I picked it back up! The main character is like me…in a book character (minus that I like to hunt/am a country girl and am not a witch or anything like that). She loves Tea, England, Old Books, Books and Reading in general and is all about learning and history. Needless to say, I identified with the main character in a welcoming way that made the book easier to get into.
I really like the way they inserted the paranormal into the storyline (as the story is a paranormal read in my opinion). They made it a large part of the storyline and had it grow larger as the book and characters moved further along, but they also still kept the storyline grounded…if that makes sense. I have always been kind of iffy on the whole vampire involved genre books, but I like that this book involved not only vampires and witches, but demons and normal humans as well. Also, that the Demons were not awful, but rather incredibly gifted individuals. I loved that! I actually wish that there were more books that didn’t portray Demons as awful creatures, but more along gifted and talented. (If anyone knows any, let me know!) I digress…
My only complaint is that at times the love story portion (which I love!!!) can feel a little “Twilight”. It is not definitely not “Twilight”, but at times I almost wanted to scream at the book. Luckily that only happened once or twice in the whole book, so it wasn’t a major complaint and didn’t drastically effect my opinion of the book.
The ending was very unsurprising as the last few chapters the reader is very aware as to what decisions are being made, but the actual ending still has enough questions that the sequel will not be a waste. The ending almost eludes to the next book having a couple different viewpoints or storylines (if you’ve read it, please don’t spoil whether or not that is the case!!), so I’m looking forward to that!
Overall I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars! I am actually going to be ordering the sequel here shortly (once our immediate move is out of the way, while we are at my in laws) and it is definitely on my near future TBR! I am very much looking forward to where the story goes!
