It is time for another book review! I have just finished this book on our road trip and wanted to share my thoughts for this read. I did really enjoy this book and it was a super lighthearted easy read!
Typically I would post the back of the book synopsis here, but due to it being a bit longer you can click HERE and see the Goodreads synopsis (let me know if you prefer this over me typing the synopsis, or if you like the other way better!).
Ok, I want to start by saying that I went in to reading this book knowing that it was going to be a cute, light hearted read that I would be able to get through quickly, but still enjoy. It did not disappoint! I loved almost every minute of this book! The main story line follows 3 characters, two friends and the cyber security officer reading their emails, as they navigate their lives. The main male character is lovable in a “homey” sort of way, while the two female friends are quirky and go through different but life changing events.
The character development throughout this book is as to be expected. The main characters grow from their “original” personas and live happily ever after. We really watch the main male character grow the most (not only because a lot of storyline is from his perspective) as he navigates getting older and being a “grown up” away from others influences. He navigates these changes well and I found that I really liked reading his thought process grow and change.
My only complaint is that at times the main character seemed a little possessive and obsessive over things that were not “his”. He dwelled on people and situations that he had not control over, nor, in some cases, had anything more to do with him. I know that this is essential to watching the character grow and seeing him change and grow was wonderful, but at times the level of obsessiveness was borderline creepy. The whole situation was one that he struggled with throughout the book though, and watching him finally stand by what he thought was right at the end was great!
This was my first Rainbow Rowell read and I have to say, I won’t mind reading more of her books! I enjoyed the book and story and I liked that it really was just a sweet romantic story. This book and storyline makes me think of Nicholas Sparks books (which I do occasionally enjoy), but without a lot of the drama. On the whole I give this book a 3.75/5 stars.
