Good afternoon everyone! I hope that your week has gotten off to a great start! Here, it’s been a busy start as I’ve got a lot to get done during the week before the big weekend that we are having this weekend. Today I am doing just a short little book review on a recent read I finished. I have always loved the James Bond movies and knew that they were based off of books. I didn’t really have a desire to read the books until our trip to The International Spy Museum. It triggered an interest in the books and it didn’t hurt that they had these beautiful covers!
Today I am going to talk about Casino Royale. You can get a full description HERE.
The James Bond stories are pretty beloved by all and I really want to read all of the “original” stories by Ian Fleming in publication order. Casino Royale did not disappoint! It was a fast paced read, but still managed to take the time to explain even the smallest of details. The action portions came one right after another and were written in a way that allowed the reader to truly get wrapped up in the moment.
As always, James Bond as a character is fantastic! I loved knowing that this was the beginning. This was where he started, but it didn’t give a lot of “background” history. It just jumped you right into the character at that moment. I actually find myself preferring stories that do this rather than give a lot of backstory. I like to find that out as the plot unravels, otherwise it can feel a bit forced. Nothing in this book feels forced.
Overall, I am really looking forward into reading more of the James Bond stories! I have added it as a goal this year to finish Ian Fleming’s published James Bond novels this year and I am excited to share them with you! Would anyone else like to join me in this goal?
