Good morning everyone! I hope that your week is going well! Today I am going to be talking to you about my home library. I’ve been thinking about doing a little post just about how my own books are organized and what works for me in our library. It’s a little different and not how an actual store would be set up, but I love it. I needed to take a little bit and tidy up the library, put some new books away, so I thought I would get some pictures and go through it with you!
I’ll start with a little before and after picture for you. I go through our library about every other week and just tidy the shelves up, put any books away that need to be, and just make sure everything is in order. I go through all of the books about every 3-4 months and clean out the shelves of books that I don’t want, wont read again, etc. This time around I just needed to tidy up and put some books away. I also decided to go ahead and do some reorganization of the shelves.
I wanted a place to be able to have all of the books that I need to read still (that I own) a little separated from the rest of my books. It makes it easier when I go in and try to pick my next read. I’ve tried several other ways of marking the books to indicate where my to be read books are, but I think this will just be the way to have them shelved. The very first shelf in the library is made up of the books that I still need to read (growing more and more everyday!) and the very bottom shelf is school books/help books. Eventually the books on the bottom shelf will find a new home and the whole book case will be all to be read books. They are organized in alphabetical order by author last name.
The next two bookcases are set up in a little bit of a different matter. The bookcase that you see when you walk into the library is the shelf of my favorite books. The top shelf is my Harry Potter collection. It has every book that I own that is related to Harry Potter (which the collection is still growing) as well as my hardcover copy of Illuminae. The second shelf is my Diana Gabaldon collection as well as the All Souls Trilogy. There is a space in this shelf for the rest of the books in the Lord John Grey series. The rest of the shelves continue on with series books and then favorite stand alone books. The bottom shelf is my husbands books (his choice).
The third and final (for now;)) bookcase is set up in a similar manner. The top shelf are my special edition copies and classics. The classics continue on to the halfway through the second shelf and then the books are arranged by author (though not alphabetized) through to the bottom shelf. The bottom shelf are a random collection of books that have just been accumulated though the years(similar to my to be read case). Eventually this book case will have more classics on it, as I am collecting them, and there will be another shelf or two that will contain more books organized by author. I would like to have one bookcase be my favorites/ classics and the other bookcases to be categorized by author last name. One day that will be how everything is organized, but as of now, I don’t have the space enough to be able to do that.
That is how my home library is organized at this time! This will probably change in the future as my tastes and books change, but if/when it does, I will do another post and update you! How do you have your books organized? I would love to hear!
