Good evening everyone! I hope that everything is going well! Tonight I’ve got a book review on a book that, quite honestly, wrecked me. I probably should not be writing this review this soon after finishing the book, but here we go.
So click HERE for some information on this book, although you probably have a general idea on what this book is about. Now, if you have read my past posts you may be thinking…”I thought you said you didn’t like romance”. I don’t normally, however this particular book has been on my list for a little while due to the description and review and when the book club that I joined decided that this would be the read of the month I decided that now was as good as any to read it. I obviously had no idea what I was getting into…
Gosh where do I even begin. I love this book. It is one of my favorite reads of 2016, it is that good. This book is on another level. It is not just another romance novel, but rather packs quite a punch several times during the story. I read it in 24 hours, although it could have been a lot less, but being a mommy comes first :). I devoured every page of this book and could not put it down.
I am going to divide this into two parts, the first part being about the characters and the story on a base level. I love Louisa. She is such a whimsical character who has a wonderful personality. I love watching her grow from a girl who is at a crossroads to a larger than life individual doing what she loves and really coming into her own. She was a very realistic character and I think anyone can relate to her and her journey. Will is a sarcastic character who also has a wonderful personality (once you unearth it). I really love watching these characters who start off as completely opposite grow individually, together and ultimately becoming the best of themselves. The story itself is so amazing and is, yes, a romance on every level. It has all the elements of a romance story on the same level of Nicholas Sparks. It stole every feeling from me, every gasp of breathe as the story unfolded and every tear I cried while I reading. It was incredible and touches the reader on every level.
The second part is about the more serious aspects of the story, because on the base level this is a romance story. What I love about this story is not only is it a fantastic romance story, but it also handles some very tough topics that really allows you to explore your feelings on those topics if you want to. The story does not push any exploration of those topics, rather gently nudges the reader if they would like to have further thoughts on some very tough situations and topics. I am still processing through my opinions and feelings and haven’t yet researched the topics as I want to, but it definitely started me thinking. This book ultimately can be so much more than just a romance if you would like to allow your mind and yourself as a reader to open up to that.
I know that this book is being made into a movie that is coming out this summer and I have seen the trailer. I cannot wait! I think the casting is perfect and what I’ve seen from the trailer it is going to be very close to the book. This is one I’ll be looking forward to in the summer. I also realize that there is a second book out that is a sequel to this one. I am waiting for the paperback version of this book to come out (because I prefer paperbacks and they will match), but I am looking forward to getting back into the story! Now, though, I am off to go read it…again!
Have you read Me Before You? What are your thoughts?
