Good morning everyone! The week is starting to come to a close and I’m very glad that it is! Our weekends can be busy, but they typically are full with fun items at a more leisurely pace. During the week is our “get everything done” time so we can truly just relax Friday evening through Sunday evening. It’s been a little easier with my husband having some more time off here and there, but overall during the week still has that feeling of overall business.
This morning I am going to be doing a book review! This is my first actual read of 2017 (previous reviews are from the end of 2016) and I think it was a great great way to start the year off! As always, the full description can be found HERE.
I’ve read a couple of Stephen Kings’ books before and while I know that he is mostly known for horror, he is an author that can write a good variety of novels. I loved Under The Dome, and this story did not disappoint.
It starts a little slow, but I actually really enjoyed watching the characters “come back to life” from what they were in the beginning. I wouldn’t say that there is character development/growth as they are pretty well fleshed out, but rather watching something dull and drab become sparkly and clean again. I think that this was one of the most rewarding things about reading this particular novel, maybe even more so than the thriller part. I love watching characters get back to themselves, so this was nice to read!
This book is hands down a thriller novel. There are a couple twists and turns, but on the whole it follows a straight path from start to finish. As a reader, you don’t know what the final moment will be, but you do know it will be there and you are reading to see how the characters unravel to that moment. Sometimes the best thing about a thriller is not know the specifics and watching the characters have to roll with the punches. I especially enjoy the parting shot (twist) that Stephen King throws in for his readers.
Overall, I really enjoyed Mr. Mercedes. It is the first book in a trilogy and I am looking forward to reading the next one!
