I want to preface this entire post right now by saying that I am not going to get into the politics of this book. I am not going to talk about gun control or my personal opinions on guns and gun control. This book will start a discussion which is perfect and it will b a great conversation, but this post is not where that will be happening. This post will purely be a review of the book. In reading this book I have tried and I believe succeeded in keeping my personal opinions on these topics separate from reading the book. Now that this is out of the way…
Hello everyone! Today I am going to be doing a book review on This is Where it Ends. As always you can find a brief synopsis HERE.
What a book. You know once you finish a book that has really touched you, run you through the ringer or struck a deep chord and at the end you as a reader just have to exhale? That’s what I had to do at the end of this book. I”ve always been interested in novels that sort of take a shooting or mass event and detail it from several points of view and/or different forms of writing (in terms of messages, prose, pictures, etc) and detail out the story from different points of view and time by time. When you read the story in this manner you truly get all viewpoints of the story (except in this case, not the shooters) and the reader can look at the story and situation more objectively. When stories are written in this manner I believe that the reader can get all of the perspectives for the story and still remain objective and form their own thoughts and opinions on the matter.
I think anyone who reads this book will honestly enjoy the book and take something from the book with them. This is written so wonderfully and the story is told so eloquently and realistically. The reader gets pulled into the story suddenly is sitting right there with the characters living this experience. The end of this story is not a surprise (at least not to me and this is not any sort of spoiler), but I didn’t feel like this ruined the book or the story. There is still quite a bit of anticipation and build up to the climax. The reader is captivated, waiting and wondering when the final chord will strike.
I would highly recommend this book to just about anyone who wants to read it. It is a truly well done novel and I feel like anyone and everyone can take something away from reading it. Have you read This is Where it Ends? What are your thoughts?
